How I got started
My great-grandmother taught me how to sew on her treadle sewing machine when I was just seven. It wasn’t until my daughter was born that I tried my hand at quilting, and was immediately hooked. I quilted my first quilt (king size since I am an over achiever) on my domestic short arm. I knew then that I wanted a long arm. Over the years I lost my creative muse. It wasn’t until the COVID lockdown that my muse finally returned…and she returned with a vengeance! In just four months I completed 7 quilts and 11 quilt tops. I even started designing my own quilt patterns. My quilt tops were piling up and my local quilting options were limited, so I decided to purchase a computerized longarm, not only to finish my own quilts but to help other quilters complete theirs as well. I named my Innova M24 Big Alice. She is equipped with AutoPilot® Mach 3 computerization and a 10-foot frame that can accommodate quilts up to 108" x 108".
I also sell one-of-a-kind quilts and handmade items on my Etsy store: https://www.etsy.com/shop/LaughingGullQuilting/
Mission
My mission is to assist quilters in finishing their quilts by providing quality, edge-to-edge and semi-custom computerized quilting services in a clean, smoke-free studio, at a fair price, and in a reasonable time.
Where did the name Laughing Gull come from?
A seagull reminds us to view life from different perspectives, to solve problems by looking at them from different angles, and to rise above our circumstances. Seagulls are symbols of communication and community and have the ability to make the most from whatever resources are available, thus, they are creative and productive. “We can lift ourselves out of ignorance, we can find ourselves as creatures of excellence and intelligence and skill. We can be free! We can learn to fly!” ~ Richard Bach, Jonathan Livingston Seagull
